Thanksgiving
I hope that you all are enjoying family and taking the time to appreciate the things that are in (and out) of your life. For me, this Thanksgiving was all about family and coming to together for my grandma on my mother’s side.
Mississippi Family
It was a BIG deal for my mom and her sisters that required us renting out community house in our small town of Marks, MS to fit all 10 of the 14 children of my grandmother, their children, and children’s children. We all had duties to make the day a success, and mine was to be the photographer for the day.
I must say the pressure so real! The outcome turned out great, but I have a few tips that can be helpful when trying to arrange a shoot with STRONG personalities and limited time.

Shooting one little one is a lot. I don’t know what I as thinking trying to shoot them all together! If you are looking for Roland, you should know he was completely against getting his picture taken and wanted to be the photographer.
Family Photography Tips
- Scout Location in Advance. Know exactly where you want to shoot your pictures to avoid any confusion the day of the shoot.
- Create a Schedule. Let people know what type of pictures you will be taking and when…. If you don’t, people will be expecting you to snap the day away (literally).
- Set Expectations in Advance. We live in an instant World, and most people don’t know what all goes into capturing a special moment. Let everyone know when the pictures will be ready and how they will receive them so you won’t have them expecting you to shoot and send in the same hour.
- Get Help! Find someone who will be your right-hand man during the shoot that will help rally people together and keep you on target. Mine’s was my sister and dad, and I couldn’t do it without them.
- Smile Through It. When shooting family it can be difficult, but remember it’s about being in the moment. When you find yourself getting a little frustrated, take a deep breath and smile… It is for a good cause.
