This is an amazing historical period of time that so many of us should be excited about. However, it is hard to watch Judge Kentaji Brown Jackson face questions that seem unfair. Yet, so many women of color can resinate with what she is experiencing.

Cory Booker took the time to acknowledge “… It’s hard for me to look at you and not see my mom…” This is the first time a black woman has been given the opportunity to be a Supreme Court Nominee. And we all knew this wasn’t going to be an easy exchange. No matter how experienced, poised, and pleasant we know Judge Brown Jackson to be.

We knew individuals would find something to make her character seem flawed.

Senator broke up the normal exchange to not only speak to Judge Brown Jackson, but to all black women about her worth.

It’s simple.

No matter what you are experiencing, know that you are worthy. Worthy of the opportunity. Worthy of standing equally with your colleagues. Worthy of the assignment. Worthy of all your dreams and aspirations. You have done the work, and know one can take from you!
