Reclaiming Myself in Tulum: My Solo Wellness Retreat at Hotel Milam

If you’ve been dreaming about taking time just for yourself — away from the noise, the to-do lists, and everyone else’s needs — let me tell you about my recent self care solo wellness retreat in Tulum, Mexico. This trip was part release, part renewal, and exactly the kind of space I didn’t know I’d been craving.

As a Endo Mom, I needed to create a solo trip experience that was safe and easy for me let me guard down, and Hotel Milam was that and so much more.

Getting There: A Stress-Free Arrival

I flew into the new Tulum International Airport, and it instantly made traveling to Tulum a breeze. The airport is just 30–40 minutes away from most major hotels, including mine. Compared to the crowded Cancun airport, Tulum’s felt calm and easy to navigate. I felt safe traveling alone, especially since I pre-booked my car service through Priceline. That’s one of my golden rules for solo travel — always arrange your airport transportation ahead of time so someone is expecting you.

Where Dreams Come to Life

I stayed at Hotel Milam, a Michelin Key hotel built on the theme: Where your dreams come to life. And they truly mean it. The property blends luxury with deep connection to nature. My in-room pool, outdoor shower, and serene sitting area created a private sanctuary for big emotions to rise and release.

From the moment I checked in, the staff made me feel like my dreams mattered. I lit incense in my room, wrote down my intentions, and placed them on the hotel’s “Dream Tree” — a symbolic ritual that made me slow down and listen to my inner voice.

Wellness at Its Core

Easy Steps to Learning How To Love Yourself Deeply

This wasn’t just a vacation; it was a soul tune-up. My focus was on the hotel’s wellness experiences, and they didn’t disappoint. My favorites:

  • Dream Ritual Massage – A personalized session that was both grounding and uplifting.
  • Flower Bath – A deeply purifying experience that turned out to be far more emotional than I expected. It felt like a symbolic washing away of old energy, ending with a traditional Temazcal (sweat lodge) ceremony.
  • Mat Pilates – Where I connected with other solo travelers and felt my body reawaken in a gentle yet powerful way.

Hotel Milam also has a walking path to Holistika Tulum, an eco-wellness hub offering sound baths, cacao ceremonies, breathwork, and more — expanding your retreat options without ever having to call a taxi.

Stepping Out Into Tulum

While I could have stayed tucked away in the resort all weekend, I did venture out with a new friend I met during Pilates. We celebrated our birthdays with a night out at Taboo Tulum, one of the best beach clubs in the area for good food, music, and that perfect “Tulum vibe.”

If you want to explore further, you can easily arrange visits to places like Gran Cenote, Tulum ruins, or spend the day at an all-inclusive beach club.

Solo Safety Tips for Tulum

  • Pre-book airport transfers so a driver is expecting you.
  • Share your location with family and do daily check-ins.
  • Keep copies of your passport in your luggage and purse.
  • Trust your instincts — if a space or situation feels off, step away.

This trip came at a time when I was shifting in several areas of my life. As a mother, I’ve spent years putting myself last. But this solo trip reminded me that I can’t pour from an empty cup.

I came home feeling lighter, clearer, and more in tune with my body’s signals. Sometimes healing isn’t about “fixing” yourself — it’s about giving yourself space to feel.
