Improving Maternal & Minority Health Outcomes from the Patient’s Perspective
I work with hospitals and health systems to close the gap between institutional care and real patient experience—bringing 16 years of lived expertise with chronic illness, a certified health coaching background, and a direct connection to the communities you serve.
Schedule a ConversationThe gap between what hospitals intend and what patients experience is costing lives, trust, and institutional credibility.
Black women in the United States are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. This disparity persists across every income and education level. Hospitals know this. Many have launched health equity initiatives. But too often, those programs are designed without the one perspective that matters most: the patient who has lived it.
I bring that perspective. Not as an abstract data point, but as a Black woman who spent 16 years navigating the healthcare system with Stage IV endometriosis—being dismissed, misdiagnosed, and undertreated before building my own path to healing. That experience, combined with my health coaching certification and a platform that reaches hundreds of thousands of women facing the same challenges, gives me a vantage point no internal committee can replicate.

Advisory services designed to bridge the gap between institutional care and lived experience
Patient Experience Advisory
I review your maternal and women’s health programs through the lens of the patient who actually uses them—identifying the moments where care breaks down, trust erodes, and outcomes diverge along racial and socioeconomic lines. This is not a survey analysis. It’s a lived-experience audit.
Community Health Content
Patient education materials that sound like they were written by a person, not a compliance department. I develop culturally responsive content—digital resources, workshop curricula, and community-facing materials—that meet minority patients where they are, in language they trust.
Health Equity Program Development
I help health systems design or strengthen equity initiatives by centering the patient perspective from the start—not as an afterthought. From intake processes to discharge protocols, I identify where systemic bias lives in your workflows and recommend practical, implementable changes.
Speaking & Staff Education
Grand rounds, department trainings, or system-wide events. I speak on the intersection of chronic illness, racial health disparities, and patient advocacy—from the perspective of someone who has been the patient in the room. Not theory. Not a TED Talk. Real stories that change how your teams listen.
Meet Kyla Canzater
I was diagnosed with Stage IV endometriosis at 22. Over the next 16 years, I experienced every failure point in the system—delayed diagnosis, dismissed symptoms, providers who didn’t listen, and treatment plans that didn’t account for my life. I became a Certified Health Coach not to replace medical care, but to fill the gaps it left behind.
Today, I run Pink Proverb, a health and wellness platform reaching hundreds of thousands of women navigating chronic illness, endometriosis, and inflammatory conditions. I’ve built a direct line to the patient population hospitals are trying to serve better—and I understand both what these women need and where the system fails them.
I bring this dual perspective to advisory work: the clinical awareness of a health coach and the unfiltered honesty of a patient who knows what it feels like to be unseen in a system that was supposed to help.
My Approach
I don’t arrive with a slide deck of recommendations I wrote before seeing your facility. Every engagement starts with listening—to your teams, your patients, and the space between what’s intended and what’s experienced.
Listen & Assess
I meet with leadership, frontline staff, and where possible, patients. I review existing equity data, patient feedback, and care protocols to understand where the gaps are—not where you think they are.
Identify & Prioritize
I map the specific breakpoints in your patient journey where experience diverges by race, income, or condition. Then I prioritize by impact—what changes would move the needle fastest for the patients most at risk.
Recommend & Implement
Practical, executable recommendations—not a 90-page report that sits on a shelf. I work with your teams to build solutions that fit your culture, resources, and timeline. And I stay involved until changes take hold.
Ways to Work Together
Every hospital is different. I offer flexible engagement models designed to meet you where you are.
